Ok, it’s been 2.5 years now that I’ve moved back to California. I’ve given up on trying to find “gainful” employment because I’ve realized I have a better chance at winning lotto. So I’ve been doing project work and so far I’ve stayed afloat. But I need to know how to get more clients. I want my comfortable lifestyle back and I want it now.
Where are the best places to network?
Where do I meet my new clients?
How do I approach them?
What on earth do I say?
It’s because of these questions that I’ve been sticking with Contracting Agencies and Firms. They don’t pay well and they bill the client 80% on top of whatever you’re making. Which is why you get paid less. They have to make their 80% and you lose out because it eats away at the clients budget. So if you’re making $35, the agency gets $65 on top of that.
If I were billing the client directly I’d bill less than $100 an hour! No wonder I get crazed looks when asking for a reasonable raise.
I don’t understand this insanity nor do I understand the bloated cost of living here. It wasn’t like this, what’s happened to Orange County and how do you survive?
